
Recipient of the Thierry Mermod Prize at the Verbier Festival, and semi - finalist in the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, baritone Redmond Sanders studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, joining the Opera School in 2024.
Recipient of the Thierry Mermod Prize at the Verbier Festival (where he was a member of the Atelier Lyrique 2024), finalist in both the Guildhall’s Gold Medal competition 2025 and Eastbourne International Singing Competition 2025 and semi-finalist in the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition 2025, English Baritone Redmond Sanders joined the Opera School at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2024 and studies with Susan Waters. He is generously supported by the Sidney Perry Foundation, the Robert Easton Scholarship and the Countess of Munster Trust. Redmond is proud to be a 2023 Samling Artist.
Redmond’s previous roles include; Antonio in Le Nozze Di Figaro, his international debut on the main stage at the Verbier Festival; Corporal from Daughter of the Regiment, Grange Park Opera; Ein Capadoccier, Salome, London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano; Vater, Hänsel Und Gretel, Frosch, Die Fledermaus, Guildhall School of Music and Drama. During his undergraduate at the Royal College of Music (where he received 1st prize in the Undergraduate English Song competition), Redmond also performed the roles of Il Boscaiuolo, La Bella Dormente Nel Bosco, John Styx, Orpheus in the Underworld and 2nd Armed Man in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. His cover roles have included L’Horoge Comtoise and Le Chat from L’Enfant et Les Sortilèges; and Edmund Bertram from Mansfield Park. Redmond has explored the roles of Il Conte, Le Nozze Di Figaro; Figaro, Il Barbiere Di Siviglia; Malatesta, Don Pasquale; Vicar, Albert Herring; Le Marquis, Dialogues des carmélites; and Prince Andrei, War and Peace in Opera Scenes performances.
Notable performances off the operatic stage have included Händel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Creation, Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater and Mass in D and Vaughan William’s Songs of Travel. Most recently he was a recitalist alongside Ruby Hughes as a Shipston Song Festival ‘Rising Star’, accompanied by Ian Tindale. Redmond has also participated in masterclass with eminent singers and artists including Barbara Frittoli, Leo Nucci, Sir Thomas Allen, Sandrine Piau, Anne Sofie von Otter, Ian Burnside and Brindley Sherratt.
In Redmond’ final year at the Guildhall Opera School he will be singing the roles of Tarquinio from Respighi’s Lucrezia; Rudolf from Der Wald by Ethel Smyth; and the title role in Britten’s Owen Wingrave. Alongside Opera School this year he will sing Melchior from Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors and Fasolt from Warner’s Das Rheingold. He is delighted to be supported by the Drake Calleja Trust and the Countess of Munster Trust in his final year of studies.
