Member of the Opernstudio at the Wiener Staatsoper for the 2026-2028 seasons and recipient of the Thierry Mermod Prize at the Verbier Festival (where he was a member of the Atelier Lyrique in 2024 and 2026), English Baritone Redmond Sanders recently concluded his studies at the Opera School at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, having previously graduated with a First Class Honours degree from the Royal College of Music. Redmond is a 2026 Opera Europa Eva Kleinitz Scholar, an alumnus of the Georg Solti Academy 2026, and he is generously supported by the Sidney Perry Foundation, the Robert Easton Scholarship, Countess of Munster Trust and the Old Blundellian Club. Redmond is also a Drake Calleja Scholar and proud to be a 2023 Samling Artist.
Redmond’s previous roles include; Baron Duophol and Giorgio Germont (cover) from La Traviata at the Verbier Festival 2026 conducted by James Gaffigan; Ein Capadoccier, Salome, London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano; Antonio in Le Nozze Di Figaro, at the Verbier Festival 2024; Corporal from Daughter of the Regiment, Grange Park Opera; at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama he has performed title role in Owen Wingrave, Britten, Tarquinio, Respighi’s Lucrezia, Rudolf, Der Wald by Ethel Smyth, Vater, Hänsel Und Gretel, Frosch, Die Fledermaus, Guildhall School of Music and Drama; L’Horoge Comtoise and Le Chat from L’Enfant et Les Sortilèges (cover); and Edmund Bertram (cover) from Mansfield Park.
On the concert platform notable performances include Redmond’s Wigmore Hall debut for the Guildhall Recital Prize, Händel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, Verdi’s Requiem, Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater and Vaughan William’s Songs of Travel. Redmond has also participated in masterclass with eminent singers and artists including Barbara Frittoli, Leo Nucci, Sir Thomas Allen, Sandrine Piau, Anne Sofie von Otter, Ann Murray DBE, Iain Burnside, and Brindley Sherratt.
Highlights for the 2026-2027 season at the Wiener Staatsoper include Fiorello, Il Barbiere di Siviglia; Der Kaiserliche Kommissär, Madama Butterfly; Komödiant, Die Verkaufte Braut; Festordner, Queen of Spades; Ein Steuermann, Tristan Und Isolde; and Ein Richter, Un Ballo in Maschera. Redmond also looks forward to covering the roles of Silvano, Un Ballo in Maschera; Yamadori, Madama Butterfly; and Johann, Werther.
